Amanda Brugel

(February 27 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a secluded community in the part of Montreal named"the West Island. Many people unfamiliar with the word often think that it's a isolated island to the west of Montreal but in fact there is a lot more to it. West Island is home to every aspect of the town of Lachine west. Amanda Brugel was born there however her stay was not long in the city. Brugel grew-up in Courtice near Oshawa in Ontario. The first goal was to become performing, but she was able to outgrow her dancers. In an article in the Toronto Star she admitted In heels, I'm 6 feet one inch. When I outgrew my male counterparts I stopped. In the case of Brugel, it was the encouragement of an instructor in drama from her high school, which prompted her to pursue acting. The teacher suggested that she take on a part in the school's annual production. She tried out and eventually got the character of Anne of Green Gables. The show was a recipient of the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to study at York University's theatre Program and graduated on the 20th of January, 2000. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts. In the last 20 years the career of Brugel has seen her appear in over 60 shows and films. Her most notable role was as Rita (shown beneath) on The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian part of the cast for Season 1 of the series. She was rarely seen.
